I went with my mom and husband. My son stayed at his other grandma’s and my girls were given a chance to be home alone. My eldest being seventeen was put in charge and honestly my other daughter who’s going to be fifteen is just as mature, if not sometimes more mature than her older sister (Sorry L, but it’s true).
Anyways, it’s a small village with family in the vicinity to check up on them. I trust my girls and they didn’t disappoint us. They were on their best behaviour and made us proud. I am blessed with great kids.
They enjoyed being independent from us and they got a taste of how it’s going to be without momma and poppa around, at least when it comes to managing things around the home (with cleaning and cooking, also safety). We are trying to allow our older kids fly on their own, so to speak. It’s a thrilling time, scary and wonderful all in one. I am still in denial that my eldest is going off to college.
I came home to hear my son caught a nice big trout! My Mother-in-law told us what happened and what my son said to her of his experience. He was so excited and managed to pull in this big fish (at least 2 feet long) to shore before his uncle was able to assist him. He said to his grandma how his legs were shaking from the rush of catching that fish. I am so proud of my little fisherman. We are definetly going to have a feast for his first catch!
As for my trip with my mom and husband, we had fun. The trip itself was fun, despite the long hours on the road. My mother is pretty funny and loves to laugh at herself. I find that to be an admirable trait. There were two or three moments where I was laughing so hard.
The hardest I ever laughed in a long time was when we stopped at a rest stop on the way home. It was already getting dark and I needed to change into my pants since it was getting cooler. There was a dry toilet and I took advantage to go while we were there. My mom decided to go in after I was done. She has horrible night vision by the way…
All of a sudden I hear a stumbling noise and two legs sticking out of the bottom of the door to the outhouse. My initial reaction was to ask her several times if she was okay. She was laughing and reassured me that she was fine and mentioned that she didn’t realise that the step into the outhouse was so high. It was then that it hit me, how comical it was to see her that way. I heard but didn’t see her fall and only saw her legs sticking out. We laughed so hard. It was a doubled over and couldn’t breathe kind of laugh. It went on like that for five minutes. I could even hear my mom laughing from the outhouse which in turn made me laugh more.
There was some people camping out in the area and if they read this (the chances are slim) we are so sorry if we disturbed you.
So that was our weekend in a nutshell. Nothing extraordinary but definetly memorable. A time to bond with my mom, a time for my kids independence!
